If this blog is going to be truly personal I guess I should let you all in on my deepest secret.
I very nearly applied for a Geography degree.
I just love Geogrphy, I have no idea why, Im fully aware its possibly the worlds weirdest, nerdiest and most boring passion- but I just can't help it.
I am aware I am probably the only person in the world that spent many sleepless nights debating whether to do a Bsc in Geography or a Fashion course at an art school. What can I say I just fully adore Glaciers.
With a deepset love of Geography, and a group of friends that share that love - there was only one place to head in April- but the country that is a literal Geography case study in itself. Iceland.

Have you ever seen someone so excited by a waterfall????

An iconic example of the worlds greatest fluvial landform (in my humble opinion).

Can you beat a geothermal pool? I dont think so, although the water stank of sulphur the blue lagoon didn't dissapoint.

Spotted a wild Bjork in her natural habitat.

Vik, one of iceland's larger towns, with a population of approx 3 people.

ME ON A REAL LIFE GLACIER - i got to see crevasses and extensional flow in real life and that excites me more than anyone will ever understand.

Golfoss was clearly the lowlight of the trip- as the least instagrammable waterfall i'd have to agree.

Look at those waves.
Did you know they kill on average 11 people a year. With no land between iceland and Antartica the massive fetch makes the waves HUGE and sometimes they grab people and just sweep them out to sea (that part isnt cool but the process behind the huge waves is interesting).

The columunar basaltic features and the black sands was like an absolute dream- who doesn't love a good volcanic feature.

More granite i hear you all cry- well here you go. I just love to please the fans.

Have you ever seen such pristine jointing????

Me with the real life mid atlantic ridge- its a wonder I have any friends.

The actual real life north american plate!!!!! if thats not cool i dont know what is. (i wish i was being sarcastic)

From this post we've established that I'm even more uncool than I first appear but I 10/10 still recommend iceland as a trip to anyone and everyone.
