@ Donald Trump

Social media (especially Twitter) is a bizarre concept in itself, a place where anyone with an internet connection has the capacity to voice their opinion. Whether it be your next door neighbour or the Dalai Lama, theoretically it’s a level playing field when it comes to vocalising your thoughts. 140 characters and the chance that it may be retweeted and favourite-d into oblivion (although sadly my ramblings never quite seem to gain a huge amount of traction). We were all warned in school about the impact of our digital footprint, and the importance of carefully approaching our actions online, so for crying out loud why did Donald Trump not get the memo. Trump’s twitter habits have caused a number of controversies. Most recently his retweeting of highly racist videos from a Britain First account. An obviously hideous thing to do in the first place has been arguably worsened by Trump’s slimy petulant refusal to even address the situation- I mean you know it’s bad when even Theresa May can summon up the back bone to call it out.

It is clear Trump has ignored the rules from the beginning. He ignored conventions in his campaign (see the wall, the branding of Clinton as a criminal, and the whole *Russia* thing), he’s ignored conventions in office (refer to immigration controls from predominantly Muslim countries, and basically all of his speeches) and yet he STILL sits in potentially the most powerful political position in the world. What concerns me most is that a man that struggles to withhold on something so simple as twitter is in charge of an entire nation, full of real life people. Promoting islamophobia is unacceptable in any case, but this is coming from a man in charge of a country with a huge Muslim population. Worrying to say the least.

Surely a man who can't even control his thumbs should not be allowed to control a global superpower?

I can only hope (if he can't stop himself) that one of these days his trigger happy tweeting lands him in a position even he can't wriggle out of. Maybe he'll dig himself a big enough hole with his social media shovel, that the only way out is through a resignation or impeachment.
